I
recently worked on an exhibition titled
Open Spaces
which explored imagery that
depicts landscapes from the traditional realm, exemplified by the
sculpture “Open Water” (above), to more abstract
images, like that depict fish swimming in an abstracted waterscape,
"Koi Fish”. The medium
is a combination
of formed and shaped steel panels with colorfully painted surfaces.
The works created for the exhibition range in scale from 24 inch
wall hangings to 4 foot tall free standing sculptures that you can walk around and yet see through. All the pieces have cut out
spaces, hence the title
Open Spaces.
This
title,
Open Spaces,
developed because of my fascination with observing light, reflection,
and shadow as an essential aspect of sculpture. My goal is to draw the
viewer in and present textures, colors, and forms that make you feel
alive and delighted. As the viewer moves, the images are ever changing,
moving with the viewer. I hope the work will bring a feeling of freedom
and release. |
